2026-2027 Housing Application

The 2026-2027 housing application cycle is underway. Current and incoming students should use StarRez to submit and manage their housing application.

Before You Apply

  • A nonrefundable $50 application fee must be paid through StarRez before you can access the application.
  • Paying the application fee does not guarantee a housing assignment.
  • Students may submit an application, but housing assignments will not be made for students with a prior balance. Please make sure your student account is clear.
  • First-time-in-college and second-year students are required to live in University Housing or University-sponsored housing. To request an exception, submit the housing exemption form for approval.

How to Apply

  1. Log in to StarRez.
  2. Select Howard Student SSO Login.
  3. Select Apply for Housing and choose the 2026-2027 academic year.
  4. Pay the $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  5. Enter the required information and submit the application.
  6. Monitor StarRez and your Howard email for an assignment or waitlist update.
  7. If assigned housing, confirm the assignment in StarRez and pay the $500 nonrefundable housing deposit within three days of receiving the assignment notification.

Assignment and Waitlist Information

  • Housing assignment and waitlist updates are issued on a rolling basis during July.
  • You may indicate a residence hall preference, but specific placements are not guaranteed.
  • If you decline an assignment or miss the confirmation deadline, the space may be offered to the next student on the waitlist.
  • Roommate changes may be requested only during fall consolidation week. Hall or room transfer requests will not be accepted outside the applicable process.

Spring Application Process

First-Time-in-College (FTIC) Students

Please be aware that, in order to be eligible for housing, the following requirements must be met. If you do not complete all the required steps by the dates listed, your access to on-campus housing could be jeopardized.

STEP ONE: PAY YOUR ENROLLMENT FEE

Students confirm their intent to enroll at Howard University by paying the required $300 non-refundable Enrollment Fee. By paying this fee, you accept your admittance to Howard University. This is an out-of-pocket student expense that should be paid upon receiving your acceptance letter and before a student can matriculate at Howard University. Student loans or any other financial award money cannot be applied toward this fee (it cannot be waived). 

STEP TWO: All Howard communications will be sent to your Bison Email. Issued to enrolled students only.

STEP THREE: You are required to pay the $50 Housing Application Fee in the starrez application in order to start the process. 

Second-Year Students

You are required to pay the $50 Housing Application Fee in the starrez application in order to start the process. 2nd years are guaranteed housing. 

Upperclassmen Students

You are required to pay the $50 Housing Application Fee in the starrez application in order to start the process. However, it does not guarantee housing for the upcoming academic year.
