Divisional Themes

1. Student Learning Engagement (Live Learning Community Development)

We will support Howard University’s academic mission through the provision of student learning experiences that enrich student scholarship, engagement and development. We will provide programs, services, and co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and engage students in their academic and University experiences.


2. Program Effectiveness and Service Delivery

We will build an infrastructure to accurately track student-learning engagement and understand the scope and patterns related to their involvement. We will pursue excellence in program delivery by regularly benchmarking our respective programs with national standards. We will ensure that the Division’s infrastructure and human capital allows us to meet and exceed those benchmarking standards.


3. Enhance Communications 

We will enhance the Division of Student Affairs’ opportunity to communicate the Bison Pride campaign to the internal and external community. We will enhance the sense of community among faculty, staff, and students by better informing the university community of events, policies, issues, and developments so that they are provided with an opportunity to be wholly engaged in student life at the Howard.


4.  Community Engagement and Service 

We will foster a campus community that provides a welcoming environment, attracts and supports a diverse student body, faculty and staff, promotes a diverse culture in which students live and learn.


5. Assessment and Evaluations

We will use assessment to improve divisional practices and services. The focus of the Student Affairs Assessment Committee will be promoting accountability and credibility regarding assessment within the division, enhancing the culture of assessment and evaluation, and improving collaboration and communication with regard to assessment.


6. Staff Development

We are committed to recruiting and developing a talented workforce that is reflective of the demographics of our student body.
